Gunfire erupted on the Ethiopia-Kenya border town of Moyale on October 23, prompting hundreds of Ethiopians to flee into Kenya, according to Kenyan police and reports from Africanews.

The unrest, linked to tensions between Ethiopia’s Oromia and Somali regional states, caused many women, children, and young people to cross through multiple entry points including Sessi, Kore, Biashara, Foundation, and Miti areas starting from October 22.

Kenyan police reported incidents of gunfire hitting the Moyale police station football ground and a hotel window, though the source of the bullets remains unidentified. A woman was shot in the neck and is in stable condition after treatment in Moyale.

The Kenya Red Cross has mobilized to provide temporary shelter and distribute essential food items, aiming to assist around 1,000 households among the new arrivals.

This development highlights ongoing regional instability in Ethiopia spilling over into neighboring Kenya, raising humanitarian and security concerns for the border area.
