Fuel supply delays on Indonesia's resort island of Bali have caused panic buying and hours-long queues, driven by tanker unloading problems and road congestion, according to Pertamina and local officials.

Fuel supply delays on Bali have led to panic buying and long queues stretching onto roads across the island, Africanews reported on 14 October 2026.

Residents, including one in Denpasar who waited about seven hours in the heat, faced significant delays to purchase petrol. Indonesian state-owned energy company Pertamina attributed the problem to a tanker’s anchor issue delaying unloading, compounded by road congestion slowing deliveries to stations.

Bali Governor Wayan Koster urged calm, assuring that fuel remained available at storage depots. Pertamina announced that an additional 57.9 million litres of petrol were scheduled to arrive between 14 and 17 October, with 60 stations in Denpasar operating 24 hours to ease supply pressure.

Despite these measures, queues persisted, particularly for the cheaper, subsidised Pertalite petrol, as panic buying added to the strain on distribution.
