CAS to Hear Senegal’s Appeal Over 2025 AFCON Final on October 8
Senegal's appeal against the CAF decision awarding Morocco a 3-0 forfeit victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final will be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on October 8 in Lausanne. The case stems from a controversial penalty decision and Senegal's temporary walk-off during the final in Rabat.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will hear Senegal’s appeal regarding the disputed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against Morocco on October 8 in Lausanne.
The Senegalese Football Federation is contesting a Confederation of African Football (CAF) ruling that declared Senegal the loser by forfeit and awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory. This decision followed a controversial incident during the final held in Rabat on January 18, when Senegal’s players left the pitch for over 15 minutes after Morocco was awarded a penalty before returning to the game.
Despite Senegal winning 1-0 in extra time on the field, CAF later overturned the result after Morocco filed a complaint. The CAS hearing will be conducted behind closed doors in French and overseen by a three-member panel chaired by French arbitrator Gérald Simon. The ruling will determine whether CAF’s decision stands or is overturned, impacting the official outcome of the 2025 AFCON final.
