Yemen held a mass funeral on Wednesday for 75 new military recruits killed in a missile strike by Houthi forces in Shabwa province, south-central Yemen.

The recruits, aged between 18 and 20, were lining up for a training session at the al-Alam camp on Monday when the missile attack occurred, killing them and wounding 200 others.

The ceremony took place on a soccer field near the site of the attack, attended by senior government and military officials. Troops and security forces carried the coffins of the fallen soldiers.

Shabwa’s governor pledged after the funeral to increase efforts to defend the province and to pursue those responsible for the strike to hold them accountable.

The recruits were being trained to provide security within Shabwa province and were not intended for front-line combat operations, according to the governor.
