Bus-truck collision west of Cairo kills 13 and injures 34
A deadly collision between a tour bus and a large truck on the Cairo-Asyut Western Desert Road resulted in 13 deaths and 34 injuries. The crash underscores persistent road safety issues in Egypt, where accidents are frequent due to reckless driving and poor road conditions.
Thirteen people died and 34 others were injured when a large truck collided with a tour bus west of Cairo on Tuesday, according to Egypt’s state media.
The crash occurred on the Cairo-Asyut Western Desert Road, where the front section of the bus was completely destroyed, scattering passenger seats and debris along the roadside.
Authorities are treating the injured at a hospital in Giza and have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
Road accidents are a frequent and deadly problem in Egypt, often attributed to reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance, and inconsistent law enforcement. Last year, nearly 6,000 people died in road accidents nationwide.
Recent months have seen several fatal crashes, including a bus accident in Sinai last month that killed 22 people and a collision in northern Egypt in August that claimed at least 18 lives.
