Kenya has reported no new cases of Ebola since the first-ever death from the virus on October 5, the country’s health ministry said on Sunday.
The initial case involved a 40-year-old man who tested positive in the Democratic Republic of Congo before travelling to Nairobi, where he died.
Following this, Kenyan authorities traced 122 contacts of the deceased, with 108 currently in quarantine and showing no symptoms. Tests conducted on 293 samples have all returned negative results.
The Ministry of Health has urged the public to remain vigilant and adhere to safety measures, providing a dedicated phone line, 719, for Ebola-related information.
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention previously stated that Kenya was not experiencing an Ebola outbreak but had an imported case.
The ongoing Ebola outbreak in the DRC, caused by the Bundibugyo strain, has resulted in 8,978 cases and 4,336 deaths since May 15, with no current treatment or vaccine available.
