Union of Arab Football Associations backs FIFA chief Gianni Infantino for re-election

The Union of Arab Football Associations (UAFA), representing 22 nations from Asia and Africa, has declared support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino's re-election bid in March 2027. The Gulf Football Federation also pledged backing. This comes amid Infantino facing criticism over a failed World Cup investment proposal and Switzerland withdrawing support over concerns about integrity.

The Union of Arab Football Associations (UAFA) announced on Thursday its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s bid for re-election in March 2027.

UAFA, which represents 22 national football associations across Asia and Africa, praised Infantino for strengthening global football unity and expanding the sport’s reach worldwide.

Similarly, the Gulf Football Federation, representing eight national associations, also pledged its support for Infantino.

Infantino has faced criticism since July following a failed proposal to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors. His home country, Switzerland, formally withdrew its backing on Wednesday, citing concerns over integrity, accountability, and transparency.

European football’s governing body UEFA opposes Infantino and plans to present a rival candidate before the November deadline for the FIFA presidential election.

The vote by FIFA’s 211 member associations is scheduled for March 2027.
