Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised an Israeli passenger and an Indian pilot for their courage in averting disaster aboard a Flydubai flight bound for Israel.
The flight, carrying 174 passengers including about 30 children, was diverted to Saudi Arabia after an attack in the cockpit left one pilot seriously wounded and the aircraft in a steep descent.
Passengers and crew intervened to regain control of the plane before it crashed. Netanyahu described the Israeli passenger as an “incredible hero” who acted with extraordinary courage under impossible circumstances.
Netanyahu also spoke with US President Donald Trump, who appreciated the passengers’ bravery, noting that many on board were already praying as the plane was nose-diving.
All passengers survived the incident. The circumstances and motive behind the cockpit attack remain under investigation.
